This month marks a significant milestone for QLeave - 20 years of proudly supporting the contract cleaning industry with portable long service leave.

Since the scheme was first introduced in July 2005, QLeave has been committed to recognising the hard work and dedication of workers in the contact cleaning industry. Contract cleaners play a vital role in keeping our communities clean, safe and functioning, and we are proud to ensure these workers can access a well-earned break, no matter how many different sites or employers they’ve worked for.

Over the past two decades, QLeave has grown alongside the industry, registering thousands of employers and workers, and managing their well-earned long service leave entitlements. We've listened, adapted and modernised our services to make it easier for employers to report, and for workers to keep track of their leave.

However, we are aware that many contract cleaning companies in Queensland are still not registered with QLeave, which means their workers may be missing out on the long service leave they are entitled to. As we move forward, we are placing a greater emphasis on raising awareness about the scheme, both among workers and employers, through a new team established to ensure employers meet their obligations. Our goal is to ensure employers understand their obligations and are fulfilling their responsibilities to support their workers.

As we reflect on the past 20 years, we look forward to continuing our partnership with the industry and ensuring fair, portable long service leave for the next generation of contract cleaners.

To everyone who has been part of this journey, thank you. Here’s to 20 years of QLeave supporting contract cleaners, with many more to come.
