January 2026 marks the fifth anniversary of the Community Services Industry (CSI) Portable Long Service Leave Scheme – a major milestone on the road of supporting essential workers in an essential industry.

The CSI Scheme is a way of recognising and applauding community services workers for their hard work and dedication, by ensuring they are granted their legislative right to long service leave, regardless of whether their circumstances change or if they change employers.

While the CSI Scheme is still in development, we are thrilled that it has seen many successes so far.

As of June 2025, the Community Services Industry Scheme has:

  • 221,881 workers registered
  • 2,051 employers registered
  • paid 9,610 claims

Since starting out in a brand-new industry, our goal has been to raise awareness and educate workers and employers on their rights and obligations, and the benefits of the CSI Scheme. We’ve been able to form strong connections with new peak bodies and associations, where we can understand the needs of industry, collaborate on important initiatives and reach even more Queenslanders.

The community services industry is critical to Queensland’s social and economic wellbeing, supporting millions of vulnerable and disadvantaged people. From 1 January 2028, eligible workers will be able to claim portable long service leave. We are looking forward to progressing the scheme further and administering payments that help workers get the rest they’ve rightfully earned. Here’s to many more years, Community Services!
