Employer obligations

Books and records

QLeave Compliance and Liaison Officers are authorised to perform inspections of employers’ books and records, to check compliance with their obligations.

You must keep books and records for six years after the last entry was made in the book or record which include:

    • the worker’s name, date of birth and residential address
    • if the worker is a registered worker, the worker’s registration number
    • the number of days the worker was engaged by the employer
    • the ordinary wages for the worker for each day worked
    • the day the worker’s engagement with the employer started
    • details of long service leave granted by the employer to, or taken by, the worker
    • details of a payment made to the worker instead of granting long service leave to the worker
    • if the worker is no longer engaged to perform community services work for the employer—the day the worker stopped being engaged to perform the work for the employer

Time and wage records, such as time sheets, that show the hours of work should be maintained for all workers, including working directors and labour-only subcontractors. These will need to be produced for a books and records inspection.

QLeave Compliance and Liaision Officers have an identification card. On seeking admission to any premises, where production of records is required, a QLeave Compliance and Liaison Officer shall produce their identification card.
